    hahah well...

for MONTHS it ran like crap and no matter what I did to it, it refused to get better. in fact it only got worse the longer I drove it. It turns out, I think it was a combination of factors. the throttle switch was bad, and so the ECU didn't know if the throttle was open or closed ever, so the mixture was way the fuck off. So, in my stupidity, I started messing with the MAP sensor and timing, and i got it marginally decent, but obviously it was really REALLY wrong now. So then on top of that, it ran for a while without these cooling hoses that I kept blowing off on the freeway on long trips, so I think the extra heat near the heads combined with the clusterfuck of timing and mixture issues at various RPMS warped and eventually caused the heads to crack HARDCORE.

when I tore down the engine, it was about .00000001 pico seconds from dynamiting. the cam was starting to go, I had chipped timing gears, all the crank and cam bearings where blue-ing. it was nasty.

the engine didn't actually blow up or anything, it just ran like shit. I drove it at least 300 miles, probably more, like that from SLO to SD. When I tore it down, it was clear it needed new rings. and the pistons and cylinders were looking old, if not technically "bad". once I got to that point I figured- what the fuck. Might as well do it right the first time.

turns out the Cam was on the way out, lifters were worn, and the crank/timing gears had some chewed up teeth. it was only a matter of time.

im replacing with much better shit than what was in there.

look for the next blog installment to get an idea of what I'm using in there.
