Gallery: Aptera Typ-1
DESCRIPTION:
The Aperta Typ-1 looks to be the first affordable electric vehicle and promises over 100 miles per 4-6 hour charge. The futuristic design sets it apart from any vehicle currently on the market. With only three wheels, the Apter Typ-1 is classified as a motorcycle, which means it doesn't have to pass any safety tests here in the States. Despite this non-requirement, Aptera has been crashing and recrashing its Typ-1 to ensure passenger safety on this closed-cabin :motorcycle". The all-electric model will be available in 2009 and the hybrid version will follow in 2010. Aptera estimated that each vehicle will cost you $27,000 and $30,000 for the electric and hybrid models, respectively. A $500 deposit reserves you one of these vehicles when they are released.
