DESCRIPTION: Though Hyundai is not as legendary as Toyota and Honda, recent improvements have Hyundai climbing the charts at an impressive rate. The 2009 Hyundai Sonata is evidence of Hyundai's method of combining performance and affordability. The Sonata provides larger cabin space (121 cubic feet) than the competing Honda Accord while delivering an overall smaller body. Compared to previous makes of the Sonata, the 2009 version provides a bit more styling. The altered headlights, grill, and wheels give the Sonata great aesthetic appeal. The interior provides much more distinct changes. From the center control console to the lighting, the 2009 Sonata provides much more comfort and elegance it previously lacked. The available navigation system will only cost you $1250. The 4-cylinder engine gets a 13 horsepower boost from 162 to 175, which beats out the Camry's 158 horsepower, Accord's 177 horsepower, and the Chevrolet Malibu's 164 horsepower. The increase in power is coupled with an increase in fuel economy (21/30 to 22/32). Both automatic and manual (5-speed) transmissions are available. The V-6 rendition has a 3.3L displacement and boasts an honest 249 horsepower. The fuel economy increases from 19/28 to 19/29. Priced from $17,000 to $24,000, the 2009 Hyundai Sonata provides a very affordable and complete package.
