Volvo’s flagship vehicle is the mid-size 2009 Volvo S80 luxury sedan. While the Volvo isn’t as popular as Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes-Benz, the safety-first automaker offers a great combination of size, luxury, performance, style, and affordability. Starting at just over $37,000, the Volvo S80 provides an extremely comfortable cabin with supportive leather-trimmed seating and quality stock audio system. The lowest trim of the S80 comes with a 3.2L 235 horsepower V6 engine coupled with front-wheel drive and 6-speed automatic transmission. The S80 T6 trim offers a turbocharged 3.0L 281 horsepower inline-6 cylinder engine and all-wheel drive. The top-of-the-line S80 V8 is powered by a thunderous 4.4L 311 horsepower V8 engine and is equipped with a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive as well. This heavy sedan has an impressive 0-60mph of 5.9 seconds. An additional sports package adds Volvo’s Four-C adaptive suspension. Other options include a premium Dynaudio 12-speaker sound system, GPS navigation system, and a rear DVD entertainment. Volvo also offers its ingenious Blind Spot Information System, Personal Car Communicator, and collision warning system to improve ultimate driver protection and promote driver awareness. The A-pillars of the Volvo’s body are equipped with sensors that alert the driver when another vehicle is in one of the calculated blind spots. While it is clearly not a 7-series or S-Class, the S80 provides ample comfort, performance, and unparalleled safety at an affordable price.
