Jessyca Rayanne talks to Larry Dominique, VP of Product Planning Nissan, about the new Nissan GT-R. First debuted at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show, it was soon after released in the US at the LA Auto Show. It is slated to hit the US market in June 2008 with prices starting at $66,675 for the base model, $68,580 for the Black Edition, and $71,900 for the Premium edition. It has proven itself all over the internet with its impressive lap times on the Nurburgring with times that make the 911 turbo sweat. This Porsche killer sports an even more advanced computer controlled 4wd system that made them famous. Packed with a 3.8 liter twin turbo DOHC V6, this beast produces 473 horsepower and 434 ft lbs of torque.
A few tests indicated that the GTR makes this HP at the wheels, which makes its crank HP in the range of approximately 550-575 horsepower.
Sporting a fancy dual clutch automated manual transaxle, this paddle shift transmission promises .2 second shift times. Even though it weighs in at approximately 3836 lbs, this twin turbo blips to 60 in just 3.3 seconds. Take it for a ride down the quarter mile in just 11.6 seconds at 120.9 mph. This thing just gets more intense the more you sit and stare at it.
I can't wait for Webridestv to do a profile on it. Top speed will be set at 193 mph. If you plan on taking it to the Nurburgring ever, keep in mind the qwerky drivers at Nissan managed to pull a lap in an astonishing 7 minutes 38.54 seconds.
The Skyline has played a huge part of Nissan's success. They produced a performance version of the Skyline beginning in 1969. This ending in 1974, but started up once again in 1989.
This started the now very popular line of Skyline GTR's that have created a cult like following amongst car enthusiasts, even in the US where they were not even available. The new V6 engine VR38DETT replaces the then popular inline 6 RB26DETT. The New GTR will be the first US production GTR ever offered by Nissan in the US. Before, you had to pay loads of cash to have a shop modify a Japanese GTR to make it legal.
