This shootout video is brought to you from Willow Springs International Raceway. While the M3 has already been pitted against the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG, Audi RS4, and even a Bugatti Veyron. WebridesTV now puts the BMW 335i tuned by Dinan.
The 335i has an MSRP of $56,000 which is considerably cheaper than the M3 which has a price ranging from $71,000 to $90,000. It has slightly less horsepower but has much significantly more torque due to its twin turbo system. They both come with six speed manuals but the Dinan 335i has a slight weight advantage of about 90 pounds.
The BMW M3 entered the E90/91/92/93 generation for model year 2008. It has been treated to a complete makeover by BMW. It features a 4.0 Liter V8 Engine that produces 414 horsepower. Power is controlled by a traditional six speed manual or a seven speed dual clutch transmission called the “M-DCT” which stands for “Double Clutch Transmission”. Shifts from this gearbox are performed in less than 0.1 seconds and gives M-DCT cars improved zero to sixty times.
The quarter mile time for this M3 is 12.5 seconds at 114.8 miles per hour. It has a top speed of 186 miles per hour without the electronic limiter and sprints from zero to sixty in 4.6 seconds (for the coupe, equipped with M-DCT).
The first test will pit the handling of the cars against each other in a slalom run. The M3 wins this test as the reviewers felt it had a slightly more responsive handling which enabled it to be pushed a bit harder.
The second test is a test on the road course. The driver really takes advantage of the increased torque on the Dinan 335i on the uphill and downhill segments. A bit of understeer and bodyroll are present on the 335i but overall is very stable.
The M3 was up next for the road course where it performed very well. The understeer and bodyroll that was present on the 335i did not cause any problems on the M3.
For the last test, the M3 and 335i will be drag raced at a local airstrip. Find out which car comes out on top and more at WebridesTV.com
