Reeves Callaway was at the LA auto show to debut their new Callaway C16 Corvette. This Ferrari killer puts out an amazing 616 horsepower. Needless to say, this brought their booth a lot of attention. The C16 name commemorates the 16th Callaway model in the company's history. Starting with a Chevy Corvette C6 chassis, Callaway adds a supercharger to the 6.0 Liter LS2 V8 to produce 616 horsepower and 582 ft lbs of torque. This creates a 3.3 second 0-60 time and a quarter mile time of only 10.9 seconds. That's a 10 second street car! If you keep that throttle pinned down, the C16 will take you all the way to 206 mph. In addition to brute horsepower, Callaway opted for including extremely lightweight and exotic materials to get it to the performance level it is at today. The wheels for example are a huge 20" x 13" wide and only weigh 14.2 lbs because they are carbon fiber on the barrel and magnesium on the face. To make this beast corner well, they installed 10 position adjustable coilovers allround.
These coilovers allow for ride height, corner weight, and pitch angle adjustability that allow the driver to set the suspension up for whatever he plans on doing, from driving to work to a track attack machine.
These Callaways are built in California, Connecticut, and Germany. This beautiful rendition of the classic Corvette was the work of designer Paul Deutschman who has been with Callaway for over 20 years. Great looks and ridiculous power do not have to alter GM's factory warranty. In fact, it is completely compliant with the current 5 year 100,000 mile warranty offered by GM. Callaway also offers the same warranty on their installed products.
With a price approaching $120,000 this road hog may seem a little pricey, but on paper, it is amazingly cheap compared to other cars available with similar performance. In addition, this Corvette won't break the bank when you stop at the gas station as it gets 28 mpg on the highway and 18 mpg around town.
That along with 3, 6-speed transmission choices including a paddle shift gear box is sure to please even the most critical of car enthusiasts.
