In this edition of the various reviews of the 2007 Los Angeles Auto Show, the ever glamorous Jessica is rigorously patrolling down the quickly growing presentation booth of the eco-friendly vehicles.
Tiny Prius Hybrids, and gigantic Hybrid Tahoes dot the floor, but the all the focus of this year’s event belongs strictly to Chevy, and nowhere is this fact more apparent than in the award given to Chevy: The Green Car of The Year award. This is truly an excellent thing for everyone, as Chevy is trying to reduce emissions, thereby making a step in the right direction to saving the planet; consuming less fuel , and ending our dependency upon oil; and finally (and most importantly) they have taken great steps to avoid losing power at the expense of the reduced emissions and lowered fuel consumption – as seen in nearly all other hybrid models of this year’s event. They managed to accomplish this by using a dual electrical engine design that can switch their power consumption from one to another, as needed, based upon the speed of the vehicle.
The Chevy spokesman, Jay Flaherty, boasted of the very pleasing results that one can get from the two-mode system. It can increase city fuel consumption by upward of 50%! He also stated that Chevy is looking to the future by expanding their hybrid line to nearly all models, new electric cars and even a fuel-cell based car could be just around the corner.
It is truly nice to see that Chevy is taking the initiative when it comes to the future of eco-friendly cars, as this clearly is the future of automotive design. Hopefully this can reverse the negative trend that all domestic manufacturers have been seeing lately, and perhaps this can be the cusp of an even greater economic, environmental and political paradigm shift in our country as a whole.
