Ever want to know what it was like to drive an F1 car? Ever wonder where the flappy-paddle gearbox comes from? Ever want to own a thoroughbred? The answer to all these questions comes from the name synonymous with the pinnacle of motorsports: Ferrari. Ferrari was first a race car, and second, a production car, as Enzo Ferrari founded Scuderia Ferrari in 1929. The first production car was made in 1947. And that’s why it is called a thoroughbred.
In this video, we see the 599 GTB Fiorano boasting it’s “power unit.” This monolithic powerhouse of precise mechanical technology represents a new shift in the Ferrari world, as this engine is most notable for sitting lower in the frame than its predecessors. The engine’s technical details (6.0 L Tipo F133F V12) might seem like gibberish to the average Greek, but they stand for 6 litres of fuel/air fits in the combustion chambers at any given time. That is coupled with the most powerful design (or the Tipo, or type F133-revision F) in Ferrari history in a production 12 cylinder engine.
The result of this engine is the production of an amazing 103 HP/L, which is the highest of any naturally aspirated V12, and some would argue that the best part is the sound. The sound of a Ferrari is unique, and the performance stands equally true. The 599 GTB Fiorano is truly an amazing horse in a field of thoroughbreds.
