Toyota brought their FJ Cruiser to SEMA to prove what it can do. To do this, they fabricated an intricate and hardcore off road test course that tests and pushes the FJ Cruiser's limits. Tim Scully was nice enough to show us first hand that their FJ Cruiser was unstoppable on their course. Participants were allowed to take a stab at it themselves also, what a blast! It starts with a 31 degree side tilt. Next we have a break over and the A track helps get you through it. Next came a 32 degree incline and a 45 degree decent. Just to push things a little further, Tim decided to back back up the 45 degree decent and the FJ did it without breaking a sweat.
This retro style compact SUV has caught a lot of attention since its debut in 2006. Its style brings us back to the original FJ40 from the 60s and it's performance did not let us down either. Toyota wanted to compete with the Nissan Xterra, the Hummer H3, and the Jeep Wrangler to name a few. With prices starting at around $22,000, this sounds like a bargain.
Powering this off road machine is the same motor used the the Tacoma and 4Runner, a 4.0 liter V6 that produces a 239 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque. They are available with a 5 speed automatic or a 6 speed manual, along with either a full time 4wd or part time 4wd system. TRD is also producing a limited production TRD Special Edition FJ Cruiser. This FJ is packed with all the TRD performance parts you could ever want and of course the aesthetics necessary to give your eyes orgasms. Some of these parts include the TRD performance exhaust, TRD air filter, Upgraded suspension componensts, rock rails, and roof rack. In addition it will sport a black roof instead of the white roof on all current models. 16 inch gun metal rims will replace the original 17 inch ones to allow for a thicker tire. Be sure to get your name on the list for one of these because TRD plans on producing 3,200 of these TRD Special Edition FJ's.
