Any car chase movie fan will love this video as WebRidesTv's Jessica Rayanne interviews Ford Chief Engineer Paul Randell and Chief Designer Doug Gaffka regarding the introduction of the new Bullitt Mustang based entirely off the 1968 Mustang GT featured in the Steve McQueen Movie, Bullitt. In the movie, McQueen is involved in a seven minute car chase through the streets of San Francisco, a chase said to have opened the door for movie car chase scenes as we see them today. McQueen's Mustang squealed around corners and flew through the air and slammed the pavement on San Francisco's trademark steep streets while chasing a pair of bad guys in a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T. Ford definitely had dreams of the classic movie car roaring through the urban city spread when designing the modern rendition of the Bullitt Mustang, as they even used a copy of the digitally re-mastered DVD of the movie to copy the exact exhaust note from the movie car with specially tuned mufflers.
As far as over-all performance goes, the 4.6L engine pumps out 315 horses and 325 lb-ft of torque, and getting that power to the ground is a 3.73:1 rear gear. Using a new fuel recognition system, by adding premium gasoline, Ford claims a 5 horsepower increase. Not only can you buy this car in the "oh so sweet" Highland Green featured in the movie, but Ford has also added Black as a second color on the option sheet. The movie inspired car is only one of many special edition Mustangs to come out of Ford's design branch, others include the Shelby GT500KR, the BOSS 302, and a 427 TRAKPAK from Jack Roush. Of the many special edition Mustangs that are seemingly pouring out of Ford, the Bullitt is a bit on the price conscious side, and coming in at just over $31,000 dollars, who can argue with such high performance for such a reasonable price?
