Saleen and Roush have been tuning mustangs for years teaching these ponies to go faster and turn corners. With each company comes a different way of going about it, a different way of getting every ounce of performance out of one of these ponies. We’re here to find out which is the no question better pony Join Derek Hill as he pits the 2008 Roush 427R Mustang against the 2008 Saleen S281 in a myriad of tests here including 0-100 acceleration and 100 to 0 braking, as well as a road course. The Course in question is Thunder Hill Raceway Park, home of the S.F. region of the SCCA as well as other clubs.
The Roush 427R weighs in at 3680 pounds with it’s “roush-charged” 4.6liter v8 putting out 435 horsepower giving it a power to weight ratio of 1 horse power for every 8.5 pounds. In addition to engine upgrades the Roush 427R also sports a high performance exhaust, upgraded brakes and a custom Roush body kit.
The Saleen S281 weighs in at a lighter 3356 pounds with it’s supercharged 4.6 liter v8 as well giving it a power to weight ratio of 1 horse power for every 7.2 pounds.
