This Ronaele Mustang is a custom creation from Ed Monfort. It's a throw back to the Gone In 60 Seconds Mustang named Eleanor. You might get a hint to his calling it "Ronaele" by spelling Eleanor backwards. This custom Ford has a ROUSH engine that bumps up the stock engine size from a 4.6 liter to a 5.0 and the 700R version sports a Supercharger to make things even more ridiculous! Nthan Swartzbaugh takes us for a spin around the track in it at Willow Springs in California.
Just the sound of this beautiful pony reminds you of the good ol’ muscle car days. Ed was adamant about not making it too modern, but modern enough to be reliable and strong enough to drive across the country. Simple mods like a front bumper, mini duck tail rear spoiler, sideskirts and scoops were all on the plate.
Some other cool bits on this Stang are it’s zinc coated rotors. They keep the rotors shiny and prevent them from rusting. In addition they have been cryogenically cycled which makes the rotors last three times as long!
For the 700R, they start with a GT mustang motor and stroke it to a 5.0 liter engine combined with special Mahle pistons designed specifically for this engine. They are strong enough to withstand 1200 ponies knocking on their door. Just to push things further, they swap the heads for a pair of Stage Two heads. The result? 630 HP, which was way too much power to keep the tires on the track.
‘Eleanor’ is the name of a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that was made extremely popular in the film Gone in 60 Seconds, both of them. Gone in 60 seconds was originally filmed in 1974 and was remade in 2000. Both glorified the beautiful and badass Eleanor. During its 71-73 generation, 4 engines were available. The most popular was the 429 Cobra Jet which sported the signature “shaker hood.” Performance Buyer’s Digest broke records at Bonneville with a bone stock model. It is still a legend.
