In this Webridestv video, we get an exclusive first look at the Saab Turbo X from the Frankfurt Auto Show. The Turbo X was produced by Saab in honor of its 30 year anniversary of turbo charging vehicles. The Turbo X is a modified 9.3, looking more like an SUV than the stock sedan. The Turbo X takes key design cues from the Aero X, the 9.3, and body style of modern crossover SUV's. Borrowing from the Aero X, the horizontal rectangles that form the front grill are stacked vertically and sweep to the headlights which are also swept back towards the leading body lines. This gives the Turbo X an aerodynamic and fluid appearance.
The body itself is derived from the 9.3, featuring the same body lines and design, with the exception of the rear. The rear of the Turbo X is all new, replacing the 9.3 sedan features for a rear hatch similar to a crossover SUV. This gives the Turbo X more luggage space and a more aggressive look. All the Turbo X's are offered with jet black paint coupled with matte grey trim in a brushed titanium texture.
The end result is a vehicle that looks like a fighter craft, dark and menacing. Unlike the stock 9.3, the Turbo X also features some more angular shaped, including the boxy rear and the rhomboid exhaust tips, also finished in the matte titanium finish. Other exterior features include ultra clear headlights and tall rear tail lights equipped with LED's, similar to Volvos XC90. Under the hood, a powerful 2.8 liter V6 turbo is mated to a 6 speed manual or automatic transmission.
Capable of 280 HP, this engine puts ALL the power to the ground via the XWD system, Saab's first production car equipped with all wheel drive. The interior follows the color scheme, featuring black on black components. Black leather seats, carbon fiber trim, and black vinyl dash and trim round out the plush Turbo X interior. The gauges are inspired by the Saab 900, including a boost gauge to monitor the famous Saab turbo, in whose honor the Turbo X was commissioned.
