Not much needs to be said about this All-American Muscle car. The video speaks for itself. Watch as not one, but two, Saleen Ultimate Bad Boys rip up the track and kick off all of the upcoming Mustang Mayhem. Amber Goetz is here to give you guys a glimpse at two hot Saleens. Saleen was kind enough to sponsor and donate a car to the ultimate cross country race, the Great American Run rally.
This Saleen platform is already the fastest production Mustang available. With 550 horsepower and 525 lb-ft of torque forced through a close ratio 6 speed transmission, and a 4:10 LSD in the back. The standard Saleen S281 Extreme Mustang used as the base and souped up to produce the Ultimate Bad Boy which has a bigger throttle body and different supercharger pulley yielding an astonishing 600 horsepower. The winner of this rally will get to take this baby home. This strong and reliable chassis would be perfect for the cannonball run, where reliability is at an utmost importance. I wonder if anyone will do the rally in a S281.
The origins of the Cannonball run can be traced back to adventurer Erwin G. "Cannonball" Baker. Baker was known for breaking long distance driving records averaging a high speed. Then comes Brock Yates who was inspired by Bakers impressive records and dedication and he started the official Cannonball rally.
After being mentioned in a Car & Driver magazine, the Cannonball revolution took off, even leading to the popular Cannonball movies. It seemed the spirit of the rally was starting to die and it wasn't until 2002 when Tim Porter brought back the Cannonball era. In charge of organizing European rallies, and refining the rules to exercise the changes of time, Porter reignited everyones love for the rally to this date! Now it is time to bring it to America for the Great American Run in which entrants will take their place on the starting line on September 7th 2008. Prize money for the winner starts out at $100,000 and will rise to $1,000,000 depending on the number of entries.
