WebTidesTV brings you into the TLC shop where Jonathan Ward Show Us Why Their "Icon" FJ Cruiser is one of the Most Capable Offroading Rides on the Planet. Based off of the original bulletproof FJ40 frame rails, this beast houses a GM crate Ramjet with 350 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque. TLC combines the simplicity and unique looks of the original FJ40 with modern suspension and accessories to make it have a less archaic feel. The end result is an amazing off road machine that would make any Land Cruiser fan drool.
One of their aesthetic goals in the project was to make it different from what all the off road magazines depicted an offroader should look like. Ergonomics were also improved upon such as the steering wheel which was sourced from CAT. Even the dash seems bulletproof with everything used being industrial grade.
To rid the Icon of that pesky huge antenna that almost always breaks, they included a hidden antenna at the top of the windshield. The Gun safe center console contains an Ipod compatible head unit and stereo. Also included is the ARB Locking differential system. To make things even better, it has separate levers that allow one to transfer all the power to the front end or rear end independently when the Icon is in a really messy condition.
Because they redesigned the floor pan in CAD, they were able to make the Icon much safer and a better design overall, allowing rear seats with easy entry, a more suitable gas tank location, and a storage compartment in your tailgate. In addition, because every Icon is hand made from the crew of 6 people in the Los Angeles based TLC garage, customizations are welcomed in order to make sure the Icon can maximize it's utility for its new owner. So no matter what your intentions are for needing an Icon, whether it be for duck hunting or a hardcore off road machine that will never leave you in the dust, TLC can build the perfect Icon for you.
